It’s Amazing How Any of These Items Survive
This isn’t philatelic in nature, but I consider it “proprietary medicine adjacent” as it is an advertising broadside for “Dr. Solon Osmond Richardson’s Jaundice Bitters”. I don’t know when exactly it was printed; the latest date printed on it is 1840.
It is printed on tissue paper, approximately 9.5 x 14 inches. I’ve previously only ever seen reprints of this, never an original.
Yes, it’s toned and creased and torn, but it is essentially in once piece, which is amazing IMO. I tried unfolding and spreading it out as much as I could, but I am worried it will disintegrate it I try further.
I can’t use archival mending tape to stabilize it either. The paper is thin and translucent, so any tape used on the reverse will show through.
I really can’t convey just how delicate this is in hand.
