Lovely Little Label Slip Attached To Spanish American War Taxed Check
I’ve seen items like this once or twice before over the years, but they don’t come around frequently, in my experience.
This is an 1899 check drawn on the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Co., with a printed slip attached by the revenue stamp (the slip itself has no adhesive), which reads “TWO CENTS added to this check for Revenue Stamp required by United States law.”
You can see the pencil notation for “Stamp 02” above the check amount.
