Two that got away…
Two lots that I bid on this past weekend that I got completely blown out of the water on. Both went considerably higher than I expected.
Scott R194 $50 on 1900 stock entittlement, Atlantic, Valdosta & Western Rwy. SCV = $1,250.
Sold for $1,320 including 10% buyer premium. The certificate is dated 1900, but the stamp wasn’t issued intil 1902. So either (1) the tax was paid retroactively, (2) there was a stock transfer or other transaction, or (3) this stamp did not originate on this document, hence my not bidding as high as I might have… wouldn’t have mattered.
And the one I REALLY wish I could have gotten, but I wasn’t even in the ballpark:
R189 $50 B/4, 2 pairs & single (9 F-VF stamps) on back of 1900 stock, Iowa Central & Western Rwy, v/train. SCV = $5,625.
Sold for $6,325 including 10% buyer’s premium. Just gorgeous, and almost impossible to find on document, let alone in multiples like this. Great cancels too! Once in a lifetime piece, IMO.
